Mentor Introduction

Community College Aerospace Scholars (CAS) administration will select mentors, full-time engineers and co-ops, to manage the 2009 participant companies. CAS' goal is to encourage scholars to study science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees by providing an experience offering in-depth views of aerospace careers. Mentors' personal experiences can truly ignite the scholars' interests in STEM career options.

Each fictional aerospace company will have one full-time hire who will be the CEO and one co-op who will be the president. There will be multiple companies for each of the sessions; thus creating smaller companies and allowing each participant to be completely involved. Mentors will be responsible for

  • introducing themselves and encouraging company members to introduce themselves on the company message board;
  • discussing via the message board the roles of the company organization and helping the members to think through the responsibilities as they prepare for their visit to JSC;
  • leading their companies to successfully compete for the Request for Proposal to develop a Mars Autonomous Roving Survey Utility Vehicle (MARSUV). s

The sessions will be held:

  • March 18-19, 2010
  • March 25-26, 2010
  • April 8-9, 2010
  • April 15-16, 2010
  • April 22-23, 2010

Each session will begin on Thursday afternoon and conclude on Saturday afternoon. This event will require time away from your employment.

CAS needs you! This is your opportunity to make a difference in a community college student's life and inspire the next generation!
