Andre works for NASA Johnson
Space Center in the Automation Robotics and Simulation Division. He is
currently serving as the Chief of the Dynamic Systems Test Branch. As
branch chief, Andre has responsibility for the development and operation
of full-scale replicas of the Space Shuttle and Space Station robotic
manipulator systems for use in astronaut training. Andre also manages
a computer aided design laboratory, an advanced optics research facility,
a robotic test laboratory and a motion base platform engineering facility.
Through the use of these laboratories and facilities, Andre is working
to extend the use of robotic systems to aid astronauts in their work in
space.
Andre was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, but considers
Garland, Texas his hometown. He received a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace
Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985, and started
work at the Johnson Space Center as a software engineer in the area of
spacecraft and robotic simulations. Andre has developed simulations of
multiple spacecraft and robotic systems, and managed projects for the
development of robotic training systems. He has also been active in the
national aerospace engineering technical society, the American Institute
of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Andre has made presentations during National
Engineers Week, and spoken on space topics in a number of outreach programs.
