| Howdy!
My name is Brian Derkowski.
I am a new hire working for NASA at the Johnson Space Center and
I’m having the time of my life so far.
I work in the Exploration Office.
We work on future missions that will set the stage for humans to
one day go back to the moon and eventually to Mars and beyond.
My hometown is Chappell Hill, Texas, which is about 70 miles northwest
of Houston. I graduated from
Brenham High School in 1996 and went on to get a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
from Texas A&M University in 2000.
I’m currently working on my M.B.A. after work at the University
of Houston-Clear Lake. Since
I’ve started working at NASA, some of the projects I’ve worked on include
working on conceptual designs for Lunar Transfer Vehicles, designing Martian
drills, and work on a Mars Sample Return mission.
We have a lot of fun here in the Exploration Office, since a strong
imagination is highly required.
After work, I love to go rock climbing or play ultimate frisbee.
I am a private pilot, so I love to take an occasional flight over
Galveston or to College Station to get a Freebird’s Burrito.
I also love to ride horses or go camping or do anything outdoors.
I look forward to being a mentor at my first Texas Aerospace Scholars
Program.
