Ben Hargis  - Co-op

HAS 2001 - 2002

Hi Everyone!  My name is Ben Hargis, and I’m another co-op here at Johnson Space Center.  I’m currently working in the Mission Operations Directorate.  I work with the flight control group that takes care of all the maintenance and mechanisms on board the International Space Station.  This is my fourth co-op tour at JSC.  My first tour was in the Mission Operations Directorate, my second was in the Engineering Directorate where I worked on the TransHab project, and my third was in the Engineering Directorate with the mock-up design group.  I’ve had a lot fun working here, and I’ve learned so much about engineering and the space program.

A little bit about me…I’m originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, where I spent all my time growing up.  Sometime during my senior year in high school, I decided to go to Georgia Tech because it’s a great engineering school with a good co-op program, and it’s in a big city.  I just finished my fourth year there as an Aerospace Engineering major.  Engineering has always been interesting to me because it uses math and science to explain how things work.  I chose Aerospace Engineering simply because it sounded the most interesting to me.  Co-oping has added some time to college, so I’m not graduating until May of 2003.  Outside of school or work, I like to play a few sports—golf, basketball, rock climbing, and occasionally softball and roller hockey.  I also play guitar and bass.

I was also a co-op mentor for the Red Team last summer, and I was completely amazed with this program.  I’m looking forward to meeting you all and having a great week!  Feel free to write me if you have any questions or just want to say hi.
