| My full name is Laura Patricia Barrera.
I was born on August 29, 1975 in Brownsville, Texas, but raised in Mexico
until the age of 14. In 1996, I obtained a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Brownsville;
two years later, the University of Montemorelos in Mexico granted me the
title of Master in Education after completing its program in Curriculum
and Instruction. I am currently employed with the Brownsville Independent
School District as a high school teacher. I teach Algebra I and II
at Gladys Porter High School. Although, I have been teaching for only
four years, I have had a fantastic experience working with those
students willing to learn and motivating those who refuse to be on task.
I believe each teenager has special qualities that makes him/her unique
and the potential to learn mathematics or any other subject he/she prefers.
Willingness is the key!!! It will be a great pleasure for me
to spend a enjoyable time with you at the NASA Space Center as we
learn and meet each other this summer.
