| I'm Michele Segal. I grew up in Miami,
Florida and I received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Florida State
University in 1996 and a Masters degree in Human Factors from Cornell University
in 1999. While in grad school, I was a NASA-JSC co-op student and I worked
in the areas of human factors and habitability. I currently
work for Spacehab, Inc. in the International Space Station (ISS) Lighting
team. I keep busy with lighting tests for the ISS, and I assist in training
astronauts by showing them what to expect when they maneuver around the
Station in total darkness and bright sunlight. Also, I do some research
in the area of human eye-hand performance during ISS docking under changeable
lighting conditions.
I wanted to be a Human Factors engineer in the space community
because there is so much we can still do to make life not just bearable,
but excellent, in space for this generation and future ones. The possibilities
are endless. I’m a drummer in a rock band and I am a volunteer
EMT and firefighter in a local neighborhood, Nassau Bay. When the stars
are aligned, I play soccer, watch comedy flicks, and ponder.
