| Rita Karl served as a technology, media,
and gifted and talented teacher in North Bennington, Vermont for 11 years
before specializing in education and public outreach for NASA. In 1996,
she managed and designed the NASA Discovery Museum at Moody Gardens in
Galveston. In 1998 she joined the staff of the Lunar and Planetary Institute
(LPI) coordinating student and teacher workshops, conducting outreach
activities in museums and planetariums, developing educational web pages,
and writing space science curriculum for print and CD-ROMs. LPI serves
as a broker/facilitator for NASA's Office of Space Science educational
program and is managed by the Universities Space Research Association.
Her current assignment for USRA is as the Education and Curriculum Manager
for the Texas Aerospace Scholars Program at NASAs Johnson Space
Center in Houston, Texas. Her duties include developing and implementing
on-line distance education curriculum for high school juniors in space
science and exploration, developing and managing the on-site portion of
the program, and coordinating all speakers, tours, field trips, counselor,
mentor and student participation for the program.
