Mars Live Logo Extended Mission Liftoff Mission

Upon completion of this unit of instruction, students will be able to:

  • Determine potential sites for a human colony on Mars
  • Determine potential sources of water and air
  • Describe methods for food production
  • Design concepts for living quarters and laboratories
  • Determine types of recreational activities and facilities
  • Describe transportation methods and equipment
  • Identify communication methods and technologies
  • Analyze issues related to colony organization
  • Compare various terraforming methods, issues, and concerns
  • Calculate the orbital velocity of the Mars spacecraft at the point of departure, when it leaves earth orbit, and at the point of arrival at Mars

The student's assignment will be graded using the rubric in the mission of the lesson. The following components are required for this lesson:

  • Composing an essay of a Mars colony
  • Designing a graphic of the Mars colony
  • Solving the math problem
  • Completing the quiz

Students are selected for the summer program based completion of lessons, score of quizzes, quality of work and timeliness.
