HAS 2006-2007 Mentor FAQ's

When will I find out who is on my team?

  • Team assignments will be made by May 16. Mentors and co-ops will be assigned to a group of 10-12 students.

When can I pick up my polo shirt?

  • You can pick up your shirt Monday during your first week of HAS.

When do I wear my polo?

  • You wear your polo shirt Friday to the closing luncheon with a pair of khakis. Your polo shirt will match your team color.

Should I attend the events on Sunday?

  • All mentors and co-ops are encouraged to attend on Sunday evenings if at all possible. You are encouraged to attend the team building exercises to be held Sunday night, as some important team decisions will be made. Dinner is a nice time for you to meet your team before these activities begin.

Do I need to notify someone if I'm coming to the Sunday activities?

  • No. You can show up to the Lunar Planetray Institute on Bay Area Blvd at 3:30 p.m. Sunday of your scheduled week.

Can I charge work time when I go to HAS events at night?

  • Yes, but they cannot be counted as your "base" hours. You are welcome to earn credit hours during this time if you are on the VDS system.

If I am a civil servant, is it okay for me to eat meals with the students or is this "accepting a gift" greater than is ethically allowed?

  • It is fine for you to participate in these activities because no part of the program is sponsored by contractor companies. All of the funding for the program comes from the state legislature and private organizations.
