The Way Things Work Describe the components, systems, and orbital maneuvers of the Space Shuttle and explain how they are accomplished
Shuttle History and Missions Review the history of the shuttle program
Shuttle Mir List the major outcomes from the U.S.-Russian Shuttle-Mir program
Shuttle Triumphs and Tragedies Justify the reasons for the Challenger and Columbia accidents and explain the changes to the program that resulted from them
Shuttle Upgrade Program List the emergency procedures developed for the Space Shuttle
The Future of Space Exploration Summarize the plan set by President Bush to retire the Space Shuttle

This assignment will be graded using the rubric in the mission of the lesson. The following components are required for this assignment:

  • Composing an essay on a new design for a 21st century vehicle
  • Designing a graphic of the vehicle
  • Solving the math problem by calculating the weight of the Space Shuttle in lower Earth orbit
  • Completing the quiz

Students are selected for the summer program based completion of lessons, score of quizzes, quality of work and timeliness.
