Welcome
to the High School Aerospace Scholars Curriculum!
Scholars should
access the Lessons link from the Scholars
home page. There are 10 assignments, one due every two weeks,
and a final project due at the end of the program. Lessons are graded by Texas teachers, using the rubrics at the end of each lesson.
Each lesson is composed of four sections:
Liftoff - Reading
material, multimedia links and tutorials.
Mission - Assignments
- reviewed by science teachers according to the performance
criteria (not graded) in the Mission.
Extended Mission
- Optional links and information (good sources for final
projects).
Quick Quiz
- One per assignment, graded.
There are five
lessons in the Shuttle to Station
section and five lessons in the Earth
to Mars section.
These are due every two weeks- due
dates listed at bottom of page. Scholars who
do not complete their on-line activities will not be invited
to attend the summer workshop.
You have a final
project that is due May 28, 2008,
which you will submit via the Comm Link. The project will
be posted on the website and graded by your reviewer.
Each assignment
has a research and/or engineering design challenge and a
math problem. These should be submitted as a text file in
the Comm Link. Edit-copy,
and edit-paste your assignment into the text box. Label
your math problem. Assignments that require you to submit
a drawing should be attached as a .jpg file no larger than
300k.
Please
do the following for each assignment:
1.
Read the section called Liftoff. It is composed of several
chapters.
2.
Complete the Quick Quiz. There are eight questions in each
Quiz that come from the chapters. You will receive your
grade immediately. These are kept in your file. You may
take the quiz more than once, but will get different questions
each time. Be sure that you are logged in, as it will not
submit if you are not and you will have to take the quiz
again to get credit when you submit.
3.
Lastly, read and submit your assignment called "Mission"
via the Comm Link. Review
the Performance Criteria before you complete your Mission.
Your teacher reviewer will send you comments within two
weeks after the due date (if you submit your activity on
time). Reviewers will not review any activities submitted
after June 1, 2008.
All scholars will
be invited to the chat sessions in January on the Shuttle
and Station, and a chat in March on the Moon and Mars hosted
by a NASA engineer or scientist. See the Important
Dates link. After your week and team selection in April, you
will have a team chat session to get to know your team and
mentor and prepare for your on-site project. The chats are
all accessed through the Comm
Link.
If you need help
with the Homework, you may email your Reviewer for help.
For other questions please post them to the Bulletin Board (via
the Comm Link) and our staff will
post an answer. Students are allowed to answer and post to each
other's bulletins. Strict guidelines have been posted at the Bulletin
Board that you need to read and respond to before you start to use
the Board.
The chat and bulletin board links are found at the Comm
Link. You will need your user name and password to access the
Comm Link. |
